Salomon Genesis: The Ultimate Trail Shoe in 2024?

The Salomon Genesis is the latest innovation from the brand, a worthy successor to the flagship model, the S/Lab Genesis. Will this new model for trail running enthusiasts be as appealing as the S/Lab model? Designed for versatility, this shoe stands out for its ability to adapt to various terrains and conditions while providing comfort and protection.

Test on the trails

Once the Salomon Genesis is on, comfort is immediately noticeable. A firm fit allows for a precise feel of the model. Having narrow feet, the model adapts directly to what I seek: precision. The shoe wraps around the foot like a second skin, providing a sense of security and support. The upper also envelops the foot, allowing for a secure fit.

Performance in Trail running

From the first strides, the versatility of the model is evident. It excels on both technical trails and more rolling sections. The Contagrip sole ensures reliable grip, even on wet or muddy surfaces, which we have extensively tested in Belgian mud.

During my tests, I particularly appreciated the shoe’s stability in descents and technical sections, as well as its shock absorption capability thanks to the Energy Surge cushioning. The Active Chassis, inherited from the S/Lab model, ensures foot stability.

I tested the model on a 20km race and was impressed by the model’s responsiveness and dynamism. It was easy to accelerate without difficulty; the shoe responded perfectly.

Another aspect I particularly appreciate is its comfort. It is clearly a superior model to the Sense Ride range, which I find too tight and ‘hard’ on the ground.

Comparison with the Salomon S/Lab Genesis

The ‘classic’ Genesis differs from the S/Lab Genesis mainly in its more versatile approach and increased comfort. While the S/Lab Genesis is designed for high-level performance in ultras and extreme conditions, the Genesis offers greater tolerance and is better suited for varied use, from daily training to mid-distance races. The S/Lab Genesis, with its tighter fit and performance-oriented features, is especially comfortable for long distances.

There is a €50 difference between the two models, so your choice depends on your profile and preferences.

The Salomon Genesis is a remarkable trail shoe for its versatility and comfort. Whether you’re training, on a group outing, or racing, it will meet your needs with its advanced technical features and well-thought-out design.

It stands out particularly for its grip, protection, and comfort, making it a top choice for runners of all levels looking for a shoe capable of handling everything up to 30-40 km. Beyond that, it might show its limits.

Notably, it costs €50 less than the S/Lab model, so it will be worth comparing the two models before making your choice.
